The Forbidden Fruit Anthology Drops September 30, 2025
Step into the garden and see what’s growing
Newton Press is proud to announce the official title and release date of our next literary anthology:
Forbidden Fruit: A Compendium of the Forbidden
📅 Coming September 30, 2025
This collection gathers a hand-selected group of writers working at the crossroads of speculative fiction, dark fabulism, and psychological surrealism—each exploring what it means to reach for what was once denied, hidden, or taboo.
And in keeping with the anthology’s themes of temptation and transgression, we are honored to share that the cover will feature art work by the internationally celebrated surrealist artist, Nicoletta Ceccoli.
🍎 On Nicoletta Ceccoli
Nicoletta Ceccoli’s art defies easy classification. Equal parts enchanting and unsettling, her work evokes the fragile, dreamlike state between childhood and awakening—exactly the tone Forbidden Fruit seeks to hold.
Known for her richly detailed illustrations and haunting visual narratives, Ceccoli’s accolades include the Andersen Prize for Best Italian Illustrator and exhibitions at the Animanix Biennial and the Magic Art Special Exhibit in Taiwan. Her work has graced galleries in Rome, Los Angeles, Paris, and beyond.
Ceccoli’s illustrations often depict doll-like figures navigating impossible, symbolic worlds—softly lit yet shadowed, beautiful but dangerous. It is this tension between surface sweetness and deeper psychological threat that makes her the perfect visual partner for our forthcoming collection.

What to Expect
Literary speculative fiction that leans strange and smart
A focus on interiority, transformation, and aftermath
A dream-worthy cover from one of the world’s most iconic contemporary illustrators
And a collection of interior art to marry with each poem, piece of flash fiction, and short story (from an in-house artist).
We’ve chosen September 30 for its resonance with the season: the edge of autumn, the threshold between the ripened and the rotting. A time to taste what’s been waiting.
